OUR PHILOSOPHY

First: do no harm.

The goal of our program is to enhance the human-animal bond. To reach that goal, we at Positive Pooch Training provide experienced dog trainers-instructors who use the science of learning theory to help you train new skills that will enable your dog or puppy to learn the rules of living with humans.

We will teach you how to train your dog using positive reinforcement and management to
control or remove reinforcements from your dog (or puppy) to eliminate behaviors that
you don't want your pet to do.
Without these skills, our companions will do what comes naturally to them: chew, bark, bite, scavenge (steal food), jump, and eliminate when and wherever they choose.

Levels Classes

Our Flexible-Schedule Program

Looking for a training class for your pet that is flexible, pet-oriented, family-friendly, and can meet the needs of your busy schedule? Positive Pooch Training has adopted an innovative new class format that is designed to help you fit pet training into your life, instead of the other way around! Our new format is a progressive, go-at-your own pace Levels Program with tracks for your puppy or adult dog. We researched training options offered throughout the US and found this new approach. The Levels format has also been promoted by the APDT at conferences as a wonderful alternative to classes structured in a traditional format.
Levels Classes typically have rolling enrollment and levels that you move through as you accomplish certain skills. You can take as long as you like to master the skills before moving up, and you purchase a block of sessions.

Which class is for me?

Puppies aged 8-16 weeks old will go to Puppy Nursery School, puppies 17-24 weeks will go to Puppy Kindergarten, and puppies 6+ months and adult dogs move through the Levels Classes.

We also offer the AKC Canine Good Citizen test (at the end of Level 4), Wallflower Classes for shy/fearful dogs, Growl & Bark for dog-reactive dogs, On the Road Manners (open to graduates of Level 3 or equivalent) and Agility Classes from Novice to Advanced.

Each Level consists of multiple segments, which are units with specific skills that will be mastered before the student moves up. Each level is designed to take anywhere from 1-4 weeks to complete before the student moves up to the next level. Students may progress at their own pace without feeling rushed.
Students may use the 2- or 4- month Training Pass to train their pet as far as they choose through our program. If students miss a class on their regularly scheduled class time, they can attend another class at the same Level during the week.

This stress-free approach to class attendance accommodates your busy lifestyle, giving you the flexibility you need as well as the time to master a skill before moving up to the next level.

Benefits of our Levels Classes over Traditional Class Format:

· Work at your own speed! Take the time you need to learn what your dog needs to know. Handlers with previous positive reinforcement training experience can move more quickly through the curriculum. First-time pet owners won’t feel rushed.

· We’re flexible! Students can take a week off if they have a very busy schedule or vacation plans without worrying about falling behind.

· Students can attend the same Level on a different day if they have a schedule conflict that week.

· Students can go back a Level and brush-up on skills if needed

· Puppy students progress at their level with less repetition of the same material.

· All the dogs in each level are working on the same skills, and you’ll know what you need to master before moving up.

· There is no requirement to move up, so there’s no pressure. If you’re happy—we’re happy!

· One price for the entire program! You have up to four months to complete as much or as little as you want. Additional months of training are available, too.

· Extra benefits include access to many helpful resources on dog behavior.

· We have classes for puppies and dogs of all ages. All our classes are designed to help your pet become a well-behaved member of your household, and to promote the human-animal bond.

· We will teach you how to train your dog using reinforcement, and how to manage your pet’s environment to control reinforcements in order to prevent unwanted behaviors.

· We want you to know the correct way to use food in training, so you and your dog do not become dependent on “treats”, but can also use Life Rewards when you have the behaviors well-established.
